The UK government mandated BIM in April 2016 in every construction project which requires that all projects funded by central government be delivered with 'fully collaborative 3D BIM'. As the mandate has come into force, there has been a rise in levels of BIM adoption.

To help project managers the LCTF has produced a Product Data Template specific to Lighting Columns  based on the format of templates already available for other building products.

For some while it has been known that there are errors within the current PD6547 document. The proposal has been to correct these when the document comes up for review but at the last review this opportunity was lost. Since then there has been desire to carry out a more extensive review and include other aspects of design such as flanges. This rather more extensive review requires a business case to be put forward which is currently being considered.
